Ohio Deputies Arrive To 'Disarm' Suspicious Package Outside Church, Find Bag Of Kittens Instead
The deputies who were called in to inspect a "suspicious package" left outside a church in Ohio were in for an adorable surprise — they found several newborn kittens in a bag.
The bag, which was found outside a church in New Miami on Thursday, sent shockwaves among local residents. The bomb unit from the Butler County Sheriff's Office arrived to "disarm" its contents. However, instead of the bomb ticking, they heard a purring sound coming from inside the bag.
"When Specialist Mike Grimes and Det. Detherage arrived, they didn't hear ticking they heard purring!" the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.
The bag contained six barely 1-day-old kittens and their mom. Officials also found a handwritten note in the bag. "Mom's name is Sprinkles. She began giving birth at 2:00 p.m. Wed. Feb. 17th," the note read, according to the sheriff's office. The note offered no explanation as to why the bag was abandoned there.
Sprinkles and the newborn kittens were taken to the Animal Friends Human Society in Hamilton. The shelter said the kittens required gentle baths because they were soaked in their mom's urine.
"They were all soaked in mom's urine and needed gentle baths when they arrived," the shelter said in a Facebook post Friday. "Sprinkles, purring throughout it all, received her vaccines and blood test and appears to be in good health."
"She's doing a fantastic job nursing and caring for her babies, and all 7 will be placed with their foster family this afternoon," the post read.
