An Ohio woman was arrested after cutting off another female driver in traffic, dragging her out of the car and attacking her with a hammer in front of the victim’s toddler twins.
Around 12:50 p.m. Saturday, police responding to the scene were told by the victim that while she was driving with her 5-year-old twins, 27-year-old Jamela Chatman cut her off in the traffic and forced her to make a stop. Chatman then allegedly got out of her car and ran toward the victim’s vehicle, reported WKBN.
According to the police report, Chatman pulled the woman out of the car and allegedly attacked her. She repeatedly beat the driver with her fists and a hammer.
Chatman had another female passenger in her car. The second passenger got out of Chatman’s car and went to the victim’s car, where she tried to take the victim’s children out of the vehicle. The passenger later told investigators she was trying to move the children out of harm’s way.
Later, Chatman allegedly bragged about the incident on a Facebook live video. She boasted taking the victim’s key, said police. A woman who was checking on the victim showed the video to the responding officer.
The victim suffered few lacerations on her arms and head but refused medical attention, reported WDTN.
On identifying Chatman, police arrived at her house where she was arrested. A hammer was found at the suspect’s house. However, the victim’s keys were not there, stated the police report.
The motive behind Chatman's act is unclear as of now.
Chatman was booked into the Mahoning County jail and charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault. She appeared at the municipal court Monday. Her bond was set at $19,000 during the hearing, jail records show.
In May, a 47-year-old deliveryman in Manhattan was approached by a man carrying a traffic divider in hand. The assailant hit the delivery man on his head in an unprovoked event. He later fled the scene allegedly laughing as the victim fell on the ground along with his bike. The victim suffered a head injury that needed six stitches.
