Olivia Culpo Says She Struggled Financially After Nick Jonas Split: 'I Had No Money'
Olivia Culpo looked back on the financial struggles she had after her breakup with Nick Jonas.
In the premiere episode of the new reality show "The Culpo Sisters" on Monday, the former Miss Universe title holder was initially hesitant to talk about the "Jealous" singer. After much prodding by her producers, she opened up about the painful past. Culpo moved to Los Angeles when she was dating the singer and thought their romance – which began in 2013, would end up in marriage. The pair eventually broke up two years later.
The former beauty queen admitted struggling personally and financially after the breakup.
"I had no brand, no money, and I was in love. That was great, right," the 30-year-old revealed.
"But when he broke up with me, I was kind of left with no sense of identity. My whole identity was in him, which is a very common story of a young person in love," she added. "I thought we were going to get married, I thought all the things, and I just remember night after night looking up at my ceiling in my apartment that I couldn't afford thinking to myself how am I going to pay my rent. I couldn't even afford my groceries."
Culpo, who was crowned in 2012, said the breakup was a "formative" experience for her.
"It was a serious, pivotal moment for me, but it was something that taught me that you can't give up," she added.
Culpo has since moved on from the breakup and is now dating NFL star Christian McCaffrey.
Jonas married former Miss World Priyanka Chopra. The couple share a daughter, Malti Marie, who was born in January.
Last week, Culpo revealed why she broke her "no athletes ever again" rule for McCaffrey.
"He's just the best, I feel like he is really everything that I could ever ask for," Culpo shared in an exclusive interview with ET. "So I never have to worry about anything. I think that was the reason why I didn't want to date an athlete, no offense, because there is a reputation there."
Before McCaffrey, Culpo also dated other athletes, including Ryan Lochte, Tim Tebow and Danny Amendola.
