It’s almost time to return to Storybrooke! The “Once Upon a Time” Season 5 premiere is only two weeks away, and fans are ready to reunite with their favorite fairytale characters. Fortunately viewers don’t have to wait too long to find out what will happen in episode 1, because ABC released the synopsis for the highly anticipated premiere.

According to the synopsis, the Season 5 premiere will pick up directly after the events in the Season 4 finale, which found Emma (Jennifer Morrison) transitioning into the Dark One. Fans will remember that the last episode ended with Emma disappearing and the dagger with her name engraved on it dropping to the ground. It’ll be up to her family and friends to work together to save her from the darkness … but first they have to find her.

A previously released sneak peek from the premiere already previewed the trouble surrounding Emma’s disappearance. The video, which debuted at D23 in August, revealed that Regina (Lana Parrilla), Robin (Sean Maguire), Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin), Charming (Josh Dallas) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) don’t know how evil Emma is yet.

“It’s not like she rode off on a unicorn,” Regina argues. “She got sucked up by a vortex of evil.”

The problem is that they can’t even see for themselves if she’s evil or not, because it appears as if Emma is no longer in their “world.”

The synopsis teases that our heroes will need an “unlikely ally” to help them. Could it be Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle)? Or perhaps even Regina’s crazy/ evil half-sister, Zelena (Rebecca Mader)?
Whoever this mysterious ally may be, they’ll need to somehow get the group to the Enchanted Forest, because that’s where Emma is. The episode description continues that Emma will be searching for Merlin (Elliot Knight), the only person that could help her stop the transition into the “Dark Swan.” Her search will lead her on the road towards Camelot, and fortunately she’ll make new friends to help her along the way. “Once Upon a Time” fans will meet “Brave” princes Merida (Amy Manson), as well as King Arthur (Liam Garrigan) and his Knights of the Round Table.

Can the group get Emma the help she needs to stop the Darkness? And will her family and friends be able to find her? Viewers will have to wait and see in the Season 5 premiere of “Once Upon a Time.”
