Who is Nimue? That’s the question on the minds of “Once Upon a Time” fans after the big reveal at the end of episode 6. Since having their memories erased, the Storybrooke heroes have been desperately trying to figure out what happened with Emma (Jennifer Morrison) in Camelot. They finally got one major clue after Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) was able to use a spell to connect with Merlin (Elliot Knight). But unfortunately the magic only revealed a message from the wizard – someone named Nimue is the only one that can destroy the Dark One.

According to the synopsis for episode 7, titled “Nimue,” ABC viewers will once again be treated to a Camelot flashback. The group of heroes will break into King Arthur’s (Liam Garrigan) castle to steal Excalibur and reunite the sword with the Dark One’s dagger. While Arthur wants to use the sword for evil, Merlin knows how to “use the weapon to save Emma from the darkness threatening her soul.” But will Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin), David (Josh Dallas), Regina (Lana Parrilla) and Robin (Sean Maguire) be able to get their hands on Excalibur? Or will bringing Zelena (Rebecca Mader) along accidentally throw a wrench into their plan?

Merlin will be with Emma outside of the castle walls. Those two have their own journey to complete and it involves facing the wizard’s ancient nemesis. It’s not clear who Merlin’s foe is, but the mysterious person has the “sacred spark” that Merlin will need to “reforge Excalibur.” Unfortunately the task won’t be an easy one. The episode 7 description teases that one person will suffer a blow “that could derail the entire operation.”

The big plotline in the upcoming episode of “Once Upon a Time” will involve yet another flashback – this time to when Merlin was younger. Fans will learn how he got his magic and immortality, and it will all tie together with a “young refugee named Nimue.” Merlin fell in love with Nimue, and that relationship changed everything. According to the synopsis, “their romance starts a chain of events that touches every one of our present day heroes.”
