- Both Tang and Le are coming off knockout victories in their last outings
- Tang called out the champion at ONE X, and Le happily agreed to it
ONE Championship has announced that the main event of its August 26th event numbered "ONE 160" will feature Thanh Le defending his featherweight title against No. 1-ranked contender Tang Kai.
For the Vietnamese-American, this will mark his second title defense since making quick work of Garry Tonon at ONE: Lights Out in Le's first fight since winning the title from Martin Nguyen at ONE: Inside the Matrix in 2020.
Tonon was on the receiving end of the short stick at ONE: Lights Out as Le only needed 56 seconds to finish off the grappling wizard after Tonon tried to secure a kneebar, but the champion was able to get out of it quickly and land the knockout blows via ground-and-pound.
Le has rarely been put in danger in his ONE Championship run as he rides a five-fight winning streak going into his ONE 160 matchup against Tang.
As for Tang, the Chinese fighter has amassed six wins in the promotion, with four of them coming by way of vicious knockout victories against the likes of Sung Jong Lee, Kim Jae Woong and Yoon Chang Min.
Tang was the recipient of a $50,000 performance bonus after taking out Kim at ONE X in less than half of the first round's five-minute duration.
Being the No. 1 contender has its perks and Tang took full advantage of the opportunity at ONE X to call out Le.
"Hey mister boss (ONE chairman abd CEO Chatri Sityodtong], I want to fight [in the] title fight. Please give me the fight. I want to fight Thanh Le," Tang declared during the post-fight interview.
Le responded to his call out and now the next challenger for his featherweight strap is eager to take it away from him.
The fight could go one of two ways: a long, drawn-out battle between two premier strikers or someone going to sleep as early as the first round.
It remains to be seen who will join them on the marquee as the Singapore-based organization has yet to announce the full card for the event happening on August 26.
