"One Piece" 1023 may have confirmed one of "the major theories about the Straw Hats' swordsman," Roronoa Zoro, who has an undisclosed past.
Pirate Hunter Zoro is one of the fan-favorite characters in the longest-running manga and anime created by Eiichiro Oda. Aside from being the first mate of the Straw Hat Pirates, Zoro's loyalty to his captain is unparalleled and at one point he proved that by owning and taking away all of his captain's pain and suffering.
The Pirate Hunter is also becoming one of the greatest swordsmen in the series after all his experiences and training under Mihawk, but one question remains unanswered -- where did he really come from?
Zoro's past has been kept under covers and while the series earlier revealed he is from East Blue, Oda clearly said that a vessel from Wano arrived at East Blue some decades ago.
Based on the theory, Koushiro's outfit bears the same symbol as those seen in Hakumai, which many fans believe is a strong indication that he, alongside Zoro came from Wano. The theory also claims that Zoro is a member of the Shimotsuki Clan, one of the Daimyo families in Wano.
One of the panels of "One Piece" 1023 as shown in the raw scans, showcases the face of Ryuma, who, as it turns out is the ancestor of the last Daimyo of Ringo, Shimotsuki Ushimaru. Ushimaru ruled Ringo until Wano was taken over by Kurozumi Orochi and Kaido two decades ago.
"One Piece" 1023 raw scans reveal the conversation between Kawamatsu and Hyogo. According to Kawamatsu when Hyori decided to give Zoro the Enma there was something in him that prevented her from stopping Oden's daughter.
Kawamatsu admitted Zoro reminds him of the Daimyo of Ringo Ushimaru in his youth. Surprisingly, Hyogoro agreed to his observation and even said, "They are like two peas in a pod." Kawamatsu also observed Zoro and Ushimaru are much alike even in the way they handle their sword.
Kawa also revealed Ushimaru is a direct descendant of the Sword God Ryuma. Kawamatsu also pointed out that like Zoro, Ryuma is also a one-eyed swordsman. The Akazaya member believed Zoro returning Shusui to Wano feels like it is some kind of "act of fate."
It is worth noting that "One Piece" 1023 raw scans do not explicitly state that Zoro is Ushimaru's son or Ryuma's descendant. But, the references and similarities are quite startling. They somehow give more credence to the theory about Zoro originating from Wano.
"One Piece" 1023 is slated to release on Sunday. The upcoming chapter is titled "As Alike As Two Peas In A Pod."
