OnePlus 9 Pro, 9, 9R, Smartwatch To Debut This Month, Latest Leaks Indicate
KEY POINTS
- Leaks say four devices will launch in the first half of 2021
- OnePlus 9 Pro to have Hasselblad optics
- OnePlus 9R is apparently a mid-ranger just above the OnePlus Nord
Rumors have suggested that OnePlus would expand its lineup with more products this year. The first half of 2021 would see the release of its next flagship series – the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. Now, an insider is claiming that other devices are also on the way: the OnePlus 9R and the OnePlus Watch.
All of these gadgets are supposedly making their debut later in March in a special OnePlus event, 91Mobiles says. The details were reportedly supplied by Ishan Argawal, a longtime tech industry tipster.
Meanwhile, Evan Blass — another reliable source for tech-related leaks — posted on Twitter: “Hello OnePlus 9R.” Prior to his tweet, this was referred to as the OnePlus 9E or OnePlus 9 Lite.
As for the OnePlus Watch, company CEO Pete Lau already hinted at its impending arrival in 2021 on social media last year.
He tweeted: “Many of you said you wanted a watch, and as you might have heard over the weekend — we're making one, to be released early next year. Wishes do come true.” The text was followed by a wrapped present emoji.
All of the above-mentioned information suggests there are four devices that will launch in the first half of 2021. That’s two premium smartphones, an entry-level model, and a smart wearable. Most of the available specifications for these items have been compiled by Tom’s Guide.
OnePlus 9 Pro/OnePlus 9
These two are the top-shelf 2021 Android handsets from OnePlus, and they are expected to pack the best-in-class hardware. Both will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC. This is the same processor found on all Samsung Galaxy S21 models.
Display sizes were not yet revealed but the screens will have a 120 Hz refresh rate. Interestingly, there will not be a huge performance gap between the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 8T.
On the other hand, the OnePlus 9 Pro is purportedly going to be an imaging powerhouse armed with optics and technology provided by Hasselblad.
OnePlus 9R
The OnePlus Nord remains as the budget-tier option, while the OnePlus 9R is apparently a mid-ranger sitting between the Nord and the OnePlus 9. It will run on a 5G-ready Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 chipset with support for 8GB of RAM.
The handset will have a 6.5-inch display with a 90 Hz refresh rate. It will have a 64-megapixel main camera and a 5,000 mAh battery.
OnePlus Watch
There is little information regarding OnePlus’ first smartwatch except for the operating system. “What we're trying to do is work with Google to try to improve the connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV, and Android smartphones to create this ability for better device interoperability across the ecosystems,” Lau said in an interview with Input Mag.
As for the design, many believe it has a round watch face. However, others think it could copy the rectangle with rounded corners of the Oppo Watch since both brands are under the same umbrella company.
