'Orange Is The New Black' Star Laura Prepon Attributes Season 3 Success To Scientology
Any fan who binge-watched the recent third season of Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black" can attest to the fact that it was an emotional set of episodes for Alex Vausse (Laura Prepon). The character was back in jail after a brief period of freedom -- thanks to her ex-girlfriend (Taylor Schilling) ratting her out to her parol officer -- and constantly paranoid about an attack on her life while in prison. Prepon revealed that the key to her performance in the harrowing scenes was something viewers might not expect: Scientology.
Vause named auditing, a therapuetical procedure central to Scientology's doctrine, as the cause for her improved acting prowess in an interiew with the Scientology publication Celebrity Magazine.
"I feel a lot of the auditing that I’ve had helps me to be willing to go there and be free and vulnerable and really jump into these ['Orange Is the New Black'] scenes wholeheartedly," said Vause. "There are days where it’s like, okay... let’s do this! And you have to drop all of your pre-conceived ideas, or mis-emotions, or being uncomfortable and just go there. It’s so gratifying and fulfilling as an artist to be able to really be there in present time, creating, with no vias [a Scientology term for communication 'via' a intermediary, such as speaking with one's mouth]. Auditing has helped so much in getting me to this place. I have more to go, and can’t wait for what’s to come."
The admission comes just days after rumors began swirling that the L. Ron Hubbard-founded religion's most famous member, actor Tom Cruise, might be considering leaving Scientology. According to Esquire, Cruise is debating leaving the religion behind due to tensions between him and the church over his daughter Suri, who he has not been raising in Scientology. As such, Suri is considered a "suppressive," meaning Cruise is techincally supposed to cut off ties with his 9-year old daughter, a fact that sources say weighs on the actor.
As for Prepon, she still seems pretty happy in the church. If that means good things for "Orange Is the New Black," then fans will be probabably be happy as well. Season 3 of "Orange Is the New Black" is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
