‘The Originals’ Season 3 Spoilers: Promo Photo Released, Fans Get First Look At Jason Dohring’s Character Detective Will Kinney
New Orleans just got a little hotter! In July, it was announced that “Veronica Mars” hunk Jason Dohring would be joining the Season 3 cast of “The Originals” as a “smart and confident” – not to mention easy on the eyes – officer of the law.
“You know what's so funny: I love [‘Veronica Mars’ executive producers] Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero, but I never watched ‘Veronica Mars.’ I only knew Jason Dohring because [‘Vampire Diaries’ executive producer] Kevin [Williamson] loved him so much on [the CBS drama] ‘Moonlight.’ And then I realized, he's Logan that everyone talks about from ‘Veronica Mars,’” executive producer Julie Plec told the Hollywood Reporter. “I feel like I'm very lucky to have the person that so many people fell in love with in the past decade.”
And according to reports, fans won’t be the only one swooning over the NOLA newcomer. Plec dished that although Detective Will Kinney is “firmly focused” on ridden the bustling city of crime, he may just find himself getting romantically involved on the job. “You just never know,” she teased.
So, who might catch the law-loving character’s eye? Well, the showrunner divulged that the detective will spend a lot of time with Cami (Leah Pipes). “He does have quite a lot of interaction with Cami,” Plec admitted. “So we’ll get to see Cami as a fun little CSI.”
Fans got to see the duo working together in when stills from Season 3 were released prior to the Oct. 8 premiere. In the images, viewers get a glimpse of the rugged – and well-dressed – detective working at the scene of a crime as well as having a one-on-one with Cami.
But could Cami’s newfound relationship (whether it be professional or romantic) cause tensions between her and Klaus (Joseph Morgan)? After all, Will’s overall mission is to clean up New Orleans… and Klaus is a part of that mess.
In May, Plec revealed to TVLine that Cami’s connection with Klaus will become rather complicated in the upcoming installment.
“It’s not that it’s going to be explored or unexplored; it just kind of a thing that exists under every interaction between them,” the showrunner said, adding that the star-crossed lovers are people who probably shouldn’t have fallen for one another. “Yet they can’t resist having these epic, deep, emotional moments. I like that every scene of theirs is fraught with a little bit of that tension. Whether we decide to act on it or not, I can’t tell you.”
Maybe witnessing his blond-haired beau growing close to the detective will light a fire under Klaus and force him to confront Cami with his feelings. (One can only hope!)
“The Originals” will air its Season 3 premiere on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 9 p.m. EDT on the CW.
