‘Orphan Black’ Season 5 Creator Graeme Manson Reveals Charlotte’s, Cal’s Fates
It’s been two days since “Orphan Black” Season 5 wrapped up, but fans still have tons of questions they want answered.
In the finale episode, Charlotte (Cynthia Galant) was with Art (Kevin Hanchard) in his home. However, it was never really revealed whether or not the young girl had moved in with Sarah’s (Tatiana Maslany) reliable confidante.
According to show creator Graeme Manson, Charlotte moving in with Art was the most realistic storyline they could think of. However, he also acknowledged how it would’ve been interesting to see Charlotte being adopted by Cosima (Maslany) and Delphine (Evelyne Brochu).
“She was staying with Art during the last couple of episodes of shenanigans, when everyone was running around. She was staying with Art’s ex and Art’s daughter. It’s a nice little open thing of what could happen to Charlotte. I know the fandom discussed her being adopted by Cosima and Delphine. I love that story, too,” Manson told TV Line.
When asked where Sarah’s ex-boyfriend, Cal (Michael Huisman), was at the time, Manson said that he was doing whatever he was tasked to do. The character, who also happens to be the dad of Kira (Skyler Wexler), would’ve been part of the finale had Huisman been available to return. But according to Manson, not everyone was supposed to appear in the season ender.
“But listen, you can’t get everybody. Particularly some of the male supporting cast who were love interests to, for instance, Sarah or Helena. At the end of the day, when we were boiling it down with Tatiana, it was like, these girls’ story does not need to be supported by a male romantic interest,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Maslany also talked about the “Orphan Black” finale and admitted that she’s still in denial that it’s all over.
“I’m so sad. I’m in denial that it’s done. And we’ve had to say so many goodbyes in terms of on the set saying goodbye to each character, and each clone as we kind of wrapped everybody. And then we had our last Paley Fest, and then we had all these lasts. And now the finale is out. Yeah, it’s still sad, as sad as it was when we got the finale script,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
