Osama Bin Laden Killing: Death By Navy SEALs on Sunday and How it Went Down
There are specific details on the Sunday killing of Osama bin Laden.
A US official told the news source AFP that Navy SEALs led the operation at the Islamabad compound, and that bin Laden was shot in the head.
The Seal Team Six launched the assault from helicopters on a heavily fortified villa in Abbotabad, near Islamabad. They had been training for several months. According to Wikileaks, the US may have known about the compound as early as 2008.
The raid lasted less than 40 minutes. A woman was used as a human shield by one of the terrorist combatants.
US officials said bin Laden resisted as we expected. Along with bin Laden, and the woman used as a human shield, three adult males were also killed, one of whom was bin Laden's adult son.
Bin Laden's body was buried at sea to avoid it becoming a shire, said an official.
CIA director Leon Panetta was responsible for calling for the raid, and used the SEAL (Sea, Air, and Land) team on loan.
