There is sure to be plenty of drama Sunday night when the 89th annual Academy Awards take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. While it isn’t difficult to predict the winners in some categories, other have become much tougher to call in the weeks leading up to the event.

Sunday could belong to “La La Land,” which enters the 2017 Oscars with a record-tying 14 nominations. It is the favorite to win best picture, according to the latest betting odds, and “Moonlight” appears to be the only other real threat in the night’s biggest category. “Hidden Figures” was once considered a dark horse candidate, but its best picture odds have nearly doubled in the last few weeks.

“La La Land” director Damien Chazelle seems to have the award for best director all but wrapped up. Chazelle and Viola Davis, who is nominated for best supporting actress for her role in “Fences,” are the biggest favorites of the night.

The awards for best original screenplay and best foreign language film are the most difficult to call. “La La Land” and “Manchester by the Sea” have nearly the same odds for screenplay. “Toni Erdmann” was once a heavy favorite to win best foreign language film, but “The Salesman” has emerged as a potential winner.

Casey Affleck is still the favorite to win best actor, but Denzel Washington has gone from a relatively significant underdog to a real threat to win the award. Mahershala Ali will likely win best supporting actor for his role in “Moonlight,” but the category is no longer a one-man race. Dev Patel from “Lion” has some momentum, going from the category’s biggest underdog to a legitimate threat with the second-best odds.
