‘Outlander’ Season 3 Starts Filming; Sam Heughan Jokes About How Jamie Has Aged

“Outlander” fans are still missing the time travel drama, but they can rest easy knowing that the show is heading back to TV soon. The cast and crew revealed that Season 3 started filming Sunday, and Sam Heughan has teased what his character Jamie will look like when the show returns.

With a 20-year time jump at the end of Season 2 of the Starz drama, viewers have already seen how Claire (Caitriona Balfe) aged. However, Jamie was not shown in the future. Audiences can’t wait to see how his character looks now, so fans certainly got excited when he offered a sneak preview.

Of course, the 36-year-old wasn’t actually allowed to post his new look. Instead he posted a picture of a different Scottish redhead: Fat Bastard (Mike Myers) from the “Austin Powers” films.

Caitriona Balfe, who plays his love interest Claire, responded to the photo by joking about how Jamie and Claire’s reunion will end quickly if he looks like that.

The actress also revealed that she wasn’t on set with Heughan. “Hope day 1 is going well .... And you aren’t all missing me too much,” she wrote in another tweet to her co-star. Her absence shouldn’t surprise fans. With Claire and Jamie stuck in different centuries, it makes sense that they wouldn’t be filming together just yet.

When “Outlander” Season 3 returns, Jamie and Claire won’t be separated for long. They’ll soon reunite and head to Jamaica. Heughan previously teased that it would feel like an entirely new adventure. “It’s going to be a completely different show,” Heughan told Vulture last month. “Next year’s stuff is probably the most interesting, in a way. We’ve been setting it up, setting the stage, introducing these characters, and now it goes into new, different worlds.”

“Outlander” Season 3 does not have a premiere date yet, but it is rumored to premiere on Starz earlier in the year than Season 2 did.
