‘Outlander’ Season 5 Finale Spoilers: Claire’s Dream Easter Eggs Explained
“Outlander” Season 5 ended with a brutal season finale, but the hour was jam-packed with easter eggs for die-hard fans. Did you catch all of these references on the Starz time travel drama?
[Spoiler Alert: Don’t read if you have not watched “Outlander” Season 5, episode 12.]
The “Outlander” finale shows Claire (Caitriona Balfe) being brutally raped by multiple men, and she mentally tries to check out. She dreams of being in a 20th century home with her family (minus Roger, Bree and Jemmy), and these flashes include all sorts of very specific nods to past episodes, going as far back as the pilot.
Vase — This goes all the way back to the first episode of “Outlander” where Claire thinks of a blue vase she once saw in a shop window. She realized, “I'd never lived in any place long enough to justify having such a simple thing. And how at that moment, I wanted nothing so much in all the world as to have a vase of my very own.”

Rabbit — Claire briefly sees a rabbit. Jamie (Sam Heughan) also saw the animal before he had a vision of Claire while he was injured on the Culloden Battlefield.
Tartan — At one point, Claire dreams of Jamie wrapping her in his tartan, which is mirrored later in the episode. However, Jamie also wrapped her in that tartan in Season 1. Later, the scene where she is wrapped in the tartan by the river also mimics another Season 1 scene.
So many feelings with these parallels. 😭❤️ #Outlander #OutlanderFinale pic.twitter.com/NfcDvzT0XX

Dragonfly — Marsali and Fergus’ son plays with a dragonfly, a pretty clear reference to a wedding gift given to Jamie and Claire and the title of the book Season 2 is based on, “Dragonfly in Amber.”
Orange — “Outlander” reminds us of Claire’s past rape by King Louis in Season 2. She slept with him in exchange for Jamie’s freedom. Upon leaving, she grabbed one of the oranges he offered her upon her arrival.
Referring to Season 2 and the scene with King Louis, to save Jamie when she goes to the private room. He offers her an orange. She takes the orange when she leaves, showing he has not broken her.

Jamie’s hair — “Outlander” has never leaned heavily into aging the actors “This Is Us” style, but Jamie’s hair is basically his Season 1 style rather than his more recent longer looks. Claire clearly is picturing him the way she did for so long while they were apart.
Wallpaper — The wallpaper in Claire’s 1960s dream home is the same décor at Lallybroch.
I just realized Jamie and Claire's blue bedroom on the Ridge is the same shade as his father's bedroom wallpaper at Lallybroch. Laird Blue? #Outlander pic.twitter.com/cRh2MV25Ax
