‘Outlander' Season 5 Star Sophie Skelton Gets Gift From Onscreen Dad
Starz's highly anticipated “Outlander” series, based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, premieres its fifth season this week and the series’ cast might be as excited as the fans.
Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna Fraser on the show, took to Instagram on Thursday to post the gift she received from her onscreen father, played by Sam Heughan.
The present, a bottle of blended scotch whiskey titled “The Sassenach,” is a fun reference to one of the show’s most popular lines. In the series, Heughan’s character Jamie often calls his wife Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) “Sassenach.” It’s a Gaelic word meaning “English person” that is normally considered rude, but in the show becomes a term of endearment between the characters.
The 25-year-old actress captioned her Instagram post with: “When you get a knock on your door and it’s a gift from your Da. Thanks Heughan, you absolute sweetheart. .... or you’re sabotaging us all before tonight!! #Outlander Season 5 premiere day.”
Skelton’s onscreen mother, Balfe, decided to jokingly share her own frustration at not receiving the same gift from Heughan. She commented on Skelton’s Instagram “Still. Waiting. On. Mine.”
Skelton has posted a steady stream of “Outlander” photos and behind-the-scenes antics on her social media in the past few weeks to promote the new season, a couple of which can be viewed below.
Season 5 of “Outlander” premiered in Hollywood, California, on Thursday night with a surprising update for fans. Entertainment Weekly reports that the new season, which was set to premiere on Sunday, will now be available to Starz app subscribers on Valentine’s Day at midnight.
