‘Outlander’ Stars Sam Heughan And Caitriona Balfe Share Behind-The-Scenes Photos
The “Outlander” stars are giving fans a glimpse of what it’s like on set when the cameras aren’t rolling. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe shared photos from behind-the-scenes of Season 3.
Heughan posted his picture first. It seems Balfe and the Scottish actor are a little more playful than their characters Jamie and Claire. Heughan covered his middle finger with an emoji and Balfe was seen sticking her tongue out. Both are cradling cups of coffee. “Caught! Hard at work…. Ahem,” he captioned the photo.
“Haha!!! It’s a hard life we have....” Balfe joked in response.
It looks like they’re still in Scotland, judging from the gray sky behind them. When Balfe posted her picture, however, it was clear that she was in South Africa. Balfe’s photo shows Heughan hanging out on the mast of a ship with a couple of crewmembers.
Heughan’s response reveals that it might not be as easy as it looks. “Totes natural like....” he wrote.
For Heughan and Balfe, these photos are all throwbacks. Though the season is currently airing, they filmed these scenes months ago. The actors are already hard at work on Season 4. Fans, however, are still waiting to see all of Season 3.
Balfe’s photo is pretty appropriate since tonight’s episode of “Outlander” kicks off a new arc for Jamie and Claire. After Young Ian (John Bell) was kidnapped, Jamie and Claire are determined to find him. They set sail for the West Indies, but they’ll run into plenty of trouble along the way. They’ll also have a few friends with them.
Fergus (César Domboy), Marsali (Lauren Lyle) and Yi Tien Cho/Mr. Willoughby (Gary Young) will be aboard the ship as well. Domboy shared his own behind-the-scenes snapshot of Young onboard.
Some “Outlander” fans might recognize the ships. They are the same sets Starz’s “Black Sails” used. The Scottish show took over the pirate drama’s set in Cape Town, South Africa to film their scenes that take place on the high seas and in Jamaica.
“Outlander” Season 3 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EDT on Starz.
