Pacquiao Signs With Paradigm Sports But McGregor Fight Far From Done
KEY POINTS
- Pacquiao vs. McGregor in 2021 just got another step closer to happening
- Pacquiao likely granted co-promoter wish
- Pacquiao camp says McGregor fight still not sealed
Manny Pacquiao officially announced that he has signed a deal with Paradigm Sports, the same sports agency handling Conor McGregor and Cris Cyborg. The development is expected to spike up rumors of a potential clash between the Filipino boxing icon and the UFC star although nothing is set in stone.
Pacquiao announced via his official Twitter account which read: "Grateful for the support of my family, team, and fans as I continue my professional boxing journey. Big things coming! Stay tuned!"
This becomes the latest development in the anticipated showdown between Pacquiao and McGregor. However, the camp of the boxer-senator says that the deal is far from done, Boxingscene reported.
McGregor had previously announced on Twitter that he will fight the eight-time division champion in the Middle East by 2021. He added that it will purely be a boxing match and will try not to resort to dirty tactics. The Notorious admitted that he held back from using his MMA strikes against Floyd Mayweather back in 2017. However, he adds that it may still depend on the expected exchange between his side and Freddie Roach.
"I hope no bottling takes place here. I'm already agreeing to these limited rules and holding back my full array of weapons. Let's get it going guys," McGregor said.
Also, it would be best to note that Pacquiao also stressed one important condition for the fight to go on. He wants his company, Pac Sports and Entertainment, to be a co-promoter. At the time, Pacquiao had no affiliations with Paradigm Sports Management, so the whole thing could be part of the planned blockbuster.
Though Pacquiao's camp alleges that the fight is far from done, the new development shows that a Pacquiao vs. McGregor fight should be announced soon. Some feel that the Irishman will have his hands full against the Pac-Man, someone who has been known to want to get it on with his opponents.
McGregor lasted 10 rounds with Mayweather in 2017, a testament to his skill and stamina. However, things could be different in 2021 - once the Pacquiao vs. McGregor fight is officially booked.
