Fans of Sarah Palin attempted to alter the Wikipedia entry on Paul Revere yesterday in light of Palin's comments about the historical figure, adding that a disputed account suggested that Revere rang bells during his ride. Editors at Wikipedia quickly pointed out that a media figure offering his or her idea of history is not a reliable source, and the addition was deleted.

The word patriot was also added to the Revere entry under Occupation, and this was deleted, as the editors decided being a patriot is not an occupation.

The edits and consequent discussion quickly became heated, and Wikipedia was forced to lock out the discussion page four hours after the initial edit.
