Passenger Grabs Wheel, Steers Bus To Safety After Driver Passes Out

The driver, a man in his 60s, suffered some sort of “medical distress” while driving on Highway 401 and was temporarily incapacitated, the Toronto Star reported. It was then that passengers got his foot off the gas pedal before the woman commandeered the vehicle and steered it out of harm’s way. None of the 47 passengers on the bus were harmed. Passenger Laurie Gennings tweeted about her perspective of the incident:
@OntNorthland almost died today when our driver passed out at the wheel. Luckily a passenger pulled us to the side on a packed 401. Traumatic experience. I want a refund!

According to paramedics, the bus driver was not in a life-threatening condition and a different driver eventually arrived to finish the vehicle’s route. The bus was also not harmed in any way. The Ontario Northland Twitter account expressed thanks to everyone involved for making sure everyone made it out in one piece.
A special thank you to police, paramedics and passengers who assisted our motor coach operator yesterday who experienced medical issues. Thank you to our passengers for your caring thoughts, quick thinking and patience, we appreciate your kindness.
