A Delta Airlines passenger who was wearing her mask incorrectly was removed from a plane Monday following an altercation with a flight attendant. The incident was caught on video and shared on social media.

BBC reporter Suzanna Kianpour, who was on the flight from Miami to Atlanta, shared the video on her Twitter account.

"Here’s what happened on our Delta flight from #Miami to #Atlanta tonight after a passenger refused to wear a mask as per policy and then gets into altercation with flight attendant," Kianpour tweeted along with the video.

In the footage, it looked like the flight attendant was having a conversation with the unidentified passenger who appeared to have a mask around her neck. The two continue to talk and the passenger can be seen moving closer to the flight attendant. Then, out of nowhere, she slaps the flight attendant in the face. It was not clear what led to the altercation.

Another BBC journalist, Katty Kay, who was on the same flight, posted updates on her Twitter account as the incident unraveled.

"The police have boarded the aircraft. The passenger does now seem to be leaving. The @Delta flight attendants handled it with remarkable patience and good humor," Kay tweeted.

Delta, in a statement, said, "There is nothing more important than the safety of our people and customers. That’s why two customers who did not comply with crew safety instructions were asked to deplane Flight 1997 this evening [sic]," New York Post reported. It wasn't clear who the second passenger was and no arrests have been made in the case.

This incident is not the first time a dispute happened after it was announced that all major carriers are to follow a mask mandate. Many online users voiced their opinion regarding what had happened and some were critical of passengers who lash out at airline personnels.

Recently, there appeared to be a noticeable surge in domestic flights in the United States. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) released a press statement revealing that they screened more than one million airport passengers Sunday.

"In addition to screening one million passengers in a single day, TSA screened 6.1 million passengers at checkpoints nationwide during the week (Mon., Oct. 12 through Sun., Oct. 18). That weekly volume also represents the highest weekly volume for TSA since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic," as stated on their website.
