Pastor Calls on Camping to Repent after Failed May 21 Doomsday Prediction
A Southern Baptist Convention pastor has called on Family Radio founder and predictor of a May 21 doomsday Harold Camping to repent after his prediction of devastating earthquakes and the “rapture” of “true believers” failed to come true.
On Sunday, Family Radio, the Oakland, California-based network of radio stations which aired Camping’s predictions, was airing pre-recorded music.
Camping has not yet made any statement after Saturday passed without a cataclysmic event.
“Harold Camping, pls update www.family.radio.com w/your repentance statement & instructions to your now-broke followers,” said Pastor Ed Stetzer on Saturday afternoon, Setzer is President of LifeWay Research, a division of the SBC.
No man knows the day or hour Harold Camping will reply and repent, Stetzer tweeted some hours later.
On Friday, Stetzer called camping a “false teacher.”
“It is not just because he sets dates – he has also called for people to leave their churches since they are all corrupt.
Stetzer said that “Jesus is coming back. Jesus was clear and unapologetic – we are to be about kingdom work before the King returns and fully establishes reign,” he said.
“Honestly, I think that is part of why Jesus says, ‘no man knows the day or the hour.’ It's because we don't have to think, ‘Jesus is coming! Look busy’ because we have been living in light of his return.”
