Patty Jenkins gave a new direction to the DC Extended Universe with the blockbuster hit movie “Wonder Woman.” The movie became one of the highest-rated superhero movies, and also garnered a lot of praise from the viewers as well.
After seeing Jenkins’ impeccable directing skills, Warner Bros. gave her a chance to direct one more movie that would have looked completely different if she would have helmed it.
In an interview with French media outlet Premiere, the 48-year-old filmmaker revealed that she was asked to direct a “Justice League” movie after the success of “Wonder Woman.” However, Jenkins turned down the offer to make a movie about the team of fictional superheroes.
She also noted that the film had “too many characters” to play with.
“I love comics, but I have come to superheroes through films. There is in me this desire to emulate compared to the movies I saw as a child. A certain spirit that reigned in those times. Is that relevant when I shoot? I do not know. I have been contacted to make a 'Justice League' movie in the past, and it doesn't connect to me. Too many characters,” Jenkins said.
Meanwhile, the “Monster” director also explained that unlike other filmmakers, she does not care about “shared” universes.
“The point is, unlike other directors, I do not really care about shared universes, continuity, and that kind of detail,” Jenkins said.
Recently, Jenkins addressed the speculations that the superhero has romantic ties with villain Cheetah. She explained that “Wonder Woman 1984” is set in the 1980s and Chris Pine is reprising his role as Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor.
Since Trevor is returning, they want to focus on his relationship with Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) and will not be introducing a new relationship between Diana and a different character.
The original “Wonder Woman” movie was a massive success for Jenkins and Gal Gadot. The movie received universal acclaim and became the first DCEU movie to hold a score of 93% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
The plot of “Wonder Woman 1984” has been kept under wraps. Apart from Gadot and Pine, the film will introduce Kristen Wiig as super-villain Cheetah while Pedro Pascal will be playing the role of Maxwell Lord.
The movie is slated to hit theaters on Aug. 14, 2020.
