Paul Walker's Daughter Meadow Reveals She Had An Abortion Amid Roe v. Wade Reversal
KEY POINTS
- Paul Walker's daughter Meadow Walker said she had a "debilitating" abortion in 2020 during the pandemic
- Meadow condemned the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade
- Other celebrities, including Cheryl Burke and Phoebe Bridgers, also shared their own abortion experience on social media
Paul Walker's daughter Meadow Walker shared her own abortion experience after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade Friday.
The 23-year-old model joined a number of celebrities who have shared how abortion changed their lives for the better and called the recent reversal of Roe v. Wade — which established an individual's constitutional right to end a pregnancy — a "huge setback in history" and a "profound injustice to women across the United States" in an Instagram post shared Saturday.
"I too battled with the choice, but in 2020, when the world was collapsing during the pandemic, I sought an abortion," she wrote. "It is a very private and personal experience — the way it should be."
Meadow said she was "lucky enough to have a great doctor who supported [her] through the debilitating process." She said she has no regrets about her decision as it helped her become the "happy and healthy person [she is] today."
"Now, knowing even more women won't have the opportunity to seek safe termination and choose their bodies first is absolutely heartbreaking," she continued. "In a world that constantly marginalizes females, this feels like the biggest assault of them all. Banning abortion doesn't prevent abortions, it prevents safe abortions."
Walker tied the knot with actor Louis Thornton-Allan in October last year, two months after announcing their engagement. Her godfather and her late dad's "Fast and Furious" co-star Vin Diesel walked her down the aisle.
Cheryl Burke also spoke out against the ruling and revealed that she had an abortion at 18.
The "Dancing with the Stars" pro said on Instagram Friday that she was "saddened" by the Supreme Court's decision, calling the reversal "ridiculous," "disappointing" and "absolutely insanity."
She shared that Planned Parenthood helped her terminate her pregnancy safely when she was going through a "really huge transition" in her life. She said that she was practicing safe sex at the time, but "s--t happens."
Burke believes that had she not gotten an abortion, "I wouldn't have been a great mother and I definitely wouldn't be sitting here with you today."
"I'm happy that I made that decision. I have no regrets, there's no shame behind it," she added.
Phoebe Bridgers also shared on Twitter that she had an abortion in October last year while on tour. She visited Planned Parenthood and received an abortion pill.
"Everyone deserves that kind of access," she wrote.
States now have the power to pass their own laws surrounding abortion. Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, South Dakota, Wisconsin and West Virginia have stopped offering services after Friday's ruling, the Associated Press reported.
