Paula Patton Wanted To Go Topless For '2 Guns': 'It Was My Idea'
Paula Patton is speaking out about her topless scene in the action comedy “2 Guns.” The 37-year-old actress revealed that it was her idea to take her top off in front of the camera for the film starring Denzel Washington.
"It was my idea. It was something that I had thought about for a long time," Patton told Yahoo. According to the news site, the shirtless scene occurs when her character Deb asks Washington’s character Bobby if he ever loved her.
"You know, you prepare for all these scenes ahead of time and I just thought, 'Gosh, it doesn't seem realistic for somebody who's been lovers with somebody for quite a while and they've just made love and now the conversation's happening that you would have a bra or a top on.' It just didn't make sense to me, so I thought the natural thing would be to not have one on."
Patton would know what it’s like to be in a loving relationship for a lengthy amount of time. The Hollywood actress has been married to music star Robin Thicke for more than 8 years and the couple has been together since they were teenagers.
Director Baltasar Kormákur was a little shocked that his leading lady wanted to bare her girls but he wasn’t going to stop her. He said, according to Yahoo, “"Seriously?! You think I want you in that top," Then he added. "For me, that's always what I wanted. It was pretty obvious -- I just don't go up to women and say, 'Take off your dress.'"
Washington had the same sentiments and raised Patton while by agreeing to appear in the scene without his shirt, Patton recalled. To the actress, she felt it wouldn’t be “natural” for her character to be fully clothed during the scene.
As for her hubby Thicke, he didn’t mind either. The “Blurred Lines” singer told her to “go for it,” according to Patton, "he's all about the art in the end,” she said to Yahoo.
The flick, which will premiere in theaters on Aug. 2 and also stars Mark Wahlberg, centers around two partners in crime who do not know the other is an undercover agent.
