Is 'Peacemaker' Season 2 Safe From Getting Axed? James Gunn Answers Worried Fan's Question
Director James Gunn has answered a worried fan's question about the "safety" of "Peacemaker" Season 2 after Warner Bros. Pictures canceled the $90-million "Batgirl" movie, which was set to release on HBO Max.
"Is Peacemaker Season 2 safe?" the fan asked Gunn in response to the 55-year-old director's post about the casting board for "The Suicide Squad 3."
Answering the question, Gunn wrote, "Yes, guys, calm down."
The director's response left many fans relieved. However, there were those who remained skeptical.
"Are you sure about that, James?" another fan asked the director as they reposted a tweet claiming that "HBO Max is expected to layoff around 70% of their development staff."
Another supporter urged the director to reach out to Warner Bros. Pictures and tell the production company to listen to its fans.
"Gunn tells the new directors of Warner about the dissatisfaction of us fans, we are feeling snubbed, disappointed, we know you have contact with them, ask them to do right things and have better communication with the fans," they wrote.
Netizens are worried because filming for "Batgirl" was already done when news about the movie's cancelation broke out, seemingly implying that no project is 100% safe from getting axed. In fact, another highly anticipated movie, "Scoob! Holiday Haunt," was also dropped by the studio.
Even Marvel directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah expressed how the unfortunate news about "Batgirl" devastated them.
"We are saddened and shocked by the news," the directors wrote in the joint statement they released Wednesday. "We still can't believe it. As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves."
"Maybe one day they will insha'Allah," they added.
HBO Max, where "Batgirl" was supposed to be released, also removed six Warner Bros. movies from its platform. Titles such as "Moonshot," "Superintelligence," "The Witches," "An American Pickle," "Locked Down" and "Charm City Kings" disappeared from the site without any prior announcement, according to IndieWire.
"Peacemaker" premiered on HBO Max on Jan. 13. The second season of the series is currently under pre-production.
