Wednesday marks the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, which was attacked in Hawaii by the Imperial Japanese Navy on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941. The attack claimed more than 2,400 American lives and brought the United States into World War II.

The event is remembered annually on Dec. 7, with speeches, live events and a parade that takes place every year in Hawaii. This year, the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam's Kilo Pier, the National Park Service and the U.S. Navy will co-host the commemoration ceremony.

The 75th remembrance will be marked by a historic moment when President Barack Obama will be meeting with Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe later this month on Dec. 27 in Honolulu. The event will mark the first time a major Japanese leader has visited the landmark site of the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu.
