Pennsylvania Couple Charged With Theft For Donations Received After Faking Birth And Death Of Newborn

A couple in Pennsylvania has been formally charged by police for faking the birth and death of a baby to exploit family and friends.

Pennsylvania State Police took Geoffrey and Kaycee Lang after it was discovered the couple had lied about a baby they reportedly had in July. They had posted about the alleged newborn on their Facebook page on July 3rd, saying they had the baby that day but it died several hours later. The couple subsequently set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the alleged expenses, which received multiple donations from the Langs’ friends and family.

It’s also worth noting the couple held a baby shower in May.

However, despite the news, it did arouse curiosity from the police as no record of the baby’s birth and death was found. Police then began investigating the couple regarding the baby about any possible wrongdoings or if an infant was in danger in any way.

The investigation came to a head when authorities conducted a search of the couple’s home in Somerset County. While searching the home, police discovered a baby-doll that looked similar to the baby in the image the Langs posted on Facebook.

After the discovery, Geoffrey and Kaycee Land were formally charged with theft by deception and receiving stolen property for the apparent ruse on Thursday.
