A 14-year-old girl in Pennsylvania has been charged with homicide for stabbing her older sister to death while their parents were asleep.
The Lancaster County District Attorney's Office said the teen called 911 around 1 a.m. Monday. When officials arrived at her home in Manheim Township, Claire Miller said she "stabbed my sister" and pointed to her bedroom where her elder sister, Helen Miller, was found with a stab wound to her neck, Lancaster Online reported.
Officials found a blood-stained pillow over the 19-year-old's face. They also found a large knife stuck above her chest. Though officers and EMS personnel attempted lifesaving measures, Helen, who had cerebral palsy and was wheelchair-bound, could not be saved.
Police said Claire was hysterical and kept repeating, "I stabbed my sister." They also saw blood on the snow near the home's driveway. It appeared that Claire, who had blood on her pants, was trying to wash her hands in the snow, the probable cause affidavit said.
Claire was taken into custody and charged as an adult because homicide was not considered a delinquent act in Pennsylvania, according to the court document. She is being held without bail at the Lancaster County Prison. Police were trying to determine the circumstances that led to Helen's death.
Claire was a ninth-grade student at Lancaster Country Day School, while Helen never attended school.
Neighbors who knew the family said they were shocked and saddened by what happened.
In a similar incident in December, a British teenager stabbed his mother 118 times before calling up the police. Rowan Thompson first strangled his mother, Jenna, before he returned to stab her 38 times in the forehead, 64 times in the neck, and 16 times in an arm. Rowan was arrested and transferred to a mental facility, where he was later found dead.
