A teenager, who recently switched genders, strangled his mother before brutally stabbing her 118 times and calling up the police, asking them to "bring a body bag."

Rowan Thompson, 17, had just returned from a jog with his mother Joanna Thompson when he attacked her at their home in Hampshire village of Hambledon, a U.K. Court heard during an inquest. After strangling his mother, Rowan took a 15-minute break, only to return and stab her 38 times in the forehead, 64 times in the neck, and 16 times in an arm.

The teen, who was transferred to a mental health facility soon after the incident, was found dead days before he was due to stand trial at Winchester crown court in October. According to the New York Post, the boy was on a break from $21,000-a-year private school at the time of the murder.

The court, which heard the inquest, was told the incident happened on July 1, 2019. Rowan, after committing the crime, called 999 and admitted to the dispatchers that he has strangled his mother.

A clip of the call was played in the court, in which the troubled teen could be heard saying: "I’ve just killed my mum. I need someone to arrest me as that’s what you do and an ambulance would be nice. I strangled her and I’ve been stabbing her with various knives and whatnot. She’s not breathing … bring a body-bag or whatever you do. I’m 99.9% sure she’s not breathing."

When the police arrived, Rowan told them he felt strange and was on "auto-pilot," adding he could not remember anything.

Speaking outside court, Rowan's father Marc Thompson said his boy was identified as non-binary and put in a unit that segregated boys and girls. He is said to have had two stints at mental health units before the attack, The Guardian reported.

Marc added that Rowan loved his mother and knew the attack was wrong. He has never been violent before, the father added.

During the inquest, pathologist Dr. Basil Purdue said Joanna suffered a fractured neck and that 14 of her neck wounds caused "copious bleeding" as they struck her jugular vein. He said her heart was still beating when Rowan stabbed her 118 times, despite being unconscious.

Psychiatrist Dr. John Sandford said, Thompson had minor autism but "there was nothing to suggest he was suffering from abnormal mental functioning" when he killed his mother.

While talking about what the other psychiatrists who treated Rowan in the past believed, his father disputed Sandford's claims and stated, "They said he was mentally incapacitated at the time," as per The Guardian.

Coroner Jason Pegg recorded a verdict of unlawful killing. Rowan’s inquest is due to take place in Manchester next year, according to the report.
