‘Penny Dreadful’ Season 3 Spoilers: Patti LuPone Set To Return As New Character Following Cut-Wife’s Death
Everyone’s favorite, psychological thriller is back! Well, sort of. It was revealed that Season 3 of the Showtime series “Penny Dreadful” is currently in production, being filmed in Dublin, Ireland, which means fans are one step closer to reuniting with their beloved actors from British-American horror drama – including Patti LuPone, who played the the Cut-Wife.
In Season 2 of the John Logan-created series, LuPone’s character met her fiery demise after being burned alive by an angry mob. However, because LuPone became a fan favorite amongst viewers during her stint on the series, it was decided that "Penny Dreadful" would bring her back… as Dr. Seward.
TVLine dished that Dr. Seward is an American therapist who treats Vanessa (Eva Green) in an “unconventional way.” And apparently Seward won’t be the only newcomer who makes their way into the upcoming storyline of “Penny Dreadful. In a press release, Showtime announced that the terrifying new season will also welcome another doc to the plot: Dr. Henry Jekyll. Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Henry Jekyll will be portrayed by “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” actor Shazad Latif.
“Penny Dreadful,” starring Green and Josh Hartnett, who plays Ethan, was renewed for a nine-episode third season in June 2015, a month before the series aired its Season 2 finale.
“John Logan’s brilliant writing and this amazingly talented ensemble continue to draw a passionate, global fanbase into the meticulously crafted world of ‘Penny Dreadful,'” Showtime Networks president David Nevins said in a statement. “Together with our wonderful partners at Sky Atlantic, we’re excited to see what new haunts John and his team have in store for season three.”
"Penny Dreadful" will return to the small screen with more drama in 2016.
