Perrie Edwards Exposes Zayn Malik, Confirms ‘Pillowtalk’ Singer Ended Engagement Via Text Message

According to Perrie Edwards, her breakup from Zayn Malik wasn’t pretty. The former One Direction singer called off his two-year engagement to the Little Mix artist in August 2015. In a leaked excerpt from Little Mix’s upcoming book “Our World,” Edwards dishes on the breakup, confirming that Malik told her things were over with a “simple text message.”

In the leaked passage, which E! Online reported was posted to Twitter and led to fans using the hashtag #PerrieExposedZaynParty, the singer assured fans that she’s now in a “really good place” following her split.

“I feel like I’m stronger and happier than I’ve been in a long time. I’ve bought a house and it’s like I’ve found my independence after going through a really rough time,” she wrote.

When talking about her breakup from Malik, Edwards said that it was “horrible” and the “worst time” of her life. “A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message,” she wrote. “Just like that. Even though things, my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me.”

To help her move on the singer said she turned to her Little Mix bandmates Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall and her family.

“The girls were amazing. We’d have sleepovers and they’d get my favorite desserts and do everything they could to cheer me up,” she wrote. “I surrounded myself with friends and family … I didn’t want to be alone because when I was I’d start to think about things and get upset. It should have been a really happy time — my career was successful, ‘Black Magic’ was doing well, and we were traveling and performing. On the surface I was happy, but inside I felt broken.”

Last November Malik opened up about ending things with Edwards telling the Fader that he absolutely did not breakup with her in a text message because he respects her. “I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that. She knows that, I know that, and the public should know that as well,” he said. “I don’t want to explain why or what I did, I just want the public to know I didn’t do that.”

Since splitting from Edwards, Malik has been dating Gigi Hadid. Speaking to Elle UK in July he gushed about dating the model. “She’s super intelligent,” he said. “I think that’s why it works so well. And we do the same type of job, so we get that with each other.”
