Pit Bull Attacks Man, Bites And Breaks His Neck; Dog Owner Arrested
A 36-year-old laborer was attacked and killed by a pit bull in India on Tuesday while he was working on a construction project.
The police said the dog pounced on the man, bit him and broke his neck. The victim, who was identified by his first name Narasimha, was working in the southern city of Bengaluru.
The man was on a break and resting on the stairs of the neighboring house when the dog’s owner, identified as Christi, came down the stairs followed by the pit bull. Suddenly, the canine jumped on the laborer and bit him.
“Before he could get up and react, the dog pounced on him, held him by the neck and crushed him. The owner tried to intervene but she was injured in the attack,” the police said, according to the Hindu.
Neighbors heard the commotion and rushed to help the laborer. They managed to rescue the man and rushed him to a hospital.
"Christi and her friend tried to catch the dog, but in vain. By then the dog clawed at Christi and she started screaming," the police said, according to the Times of India.
Doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
"The dog bit his internal carotid artery, which supplies blood to the brain, and as a result, he breathed his last quickly," a doctor from the Yelahanka hospital said. The exact reason of death will be determined after an autopsy.
The city of Bengaluru is currently under a lockdown due to the rising cases of COVID-19. Narasimha and his wife were living in the construction site as the state government allowed laborers staying there to continue working.
The police booked the pit bull’s owner for death due to negligence. The dog owner was also injured in the incident and was taken to the hospital.
Recently, a 1-month-old baby died in a dog attack in Connecticut. The pet dog mauled the child Monday at the home in 36 McKinley Ave., a multifamily residence area in Norwich. When the paramedics entered the home, they found the baby with severe injuries. The dog involved in the attack was identified as a pit bull mix. The fate of the canine remained unclear.
