Earlier this month, a 4-year-old girl was mauled to death by her pet dog following which the canine was euthanized. Authorities said the dog attacked the child at their home in Oak Grove Road. The unidentified girl was rushed to a hospital where she died of her injuries. A city official confirmed the mixed breed dog was humanely euthanized at an animal shelter. “Anytime there is a loss of life, it’s a tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and all first responders that responded to this call,” Chief Neil Noakes said in a release at the time. An autopsy was performed after the "tragic incident."
In April, a 7-year-old girl and her mother in North Carolina were mauled by two dogs. The girl and her mother were caring for the two pit bulls that belonged to their neighbor when the attack took place. The owner of the dogs was out of town at the time. The dogs attacked the child and her mother in a backyard of the home in Garner. The girl died after being attacked, while the mother was hospitalized. The police said they were unaware about what provoked the dogs to attack the two people.
