Focus Entertainment and Asobo Studio's "A Plague Tale: Requiem" surpassed one million players one week after the sequel's launch.

The sequel to "A Plague Tale Innocence" was released on Oct. 18 and continues the story of Amicia and Hugo six months after the events of the first game. Amicia and Hugo are a pair of aristocratic siblings who live in a fictional medieval France where millions of rats have swallowed the country in a mythical plague.

Survival against all odds was one of the themes of the series, charming fans and critics alike with the launch of the first game in 2019. The sequel has taken the success of the first game and ramped it up even further. "A Plague Tale: Innocence" sold over a million units a year after its release, "A Plague Tale: Requiem" reached more than one million players in one week.

This doesn't necessarily mean that over a million copies were sold, "A Plague Tale: Requiem" was included in the Xbox Game Pass during its launch. Some players didn't have to pay for their own version of the title. And, unlike the launch of the first game, it was made available across multiple platforms.

Sales from PlayStation and Switch players have yet to be revealed, but the title has been one of the more anticipated games of October due to the popularity of "A Plague Tale: Innocence." The first game's popularity was despite performance issues and the fact that the most it could run on a console was at 30 FPS. These issues have been addressed in the sequel and there are even new gameplay mechanics that have been added by the developers.

One of these is the crossbow Amicia can now use to fight enemies and puts the siblings on a stronger footing against the soldiers of the Inquisition, although using it will have a detrimental effect on her psyche.

Hugo has also gotten an upgrade to his rat-based abilities and can now scan for enemies, allowing players to sneak their way past enemies. Stealth was a major part of the first game and this continues to be true, some enemies can't be fought head-on by the siblings, mythical rat-controlling powers included.

While the siblings have their own boosts, their enemies from the Inquisition have gotten upgrades as well. There will also be far more rats than in the first game thanks to new developments in rendering. Players can now expect to see swarms of more than 300,000 rats at one time.

"A Plague Tale: Requiem" is available to play on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
