‘Playing Cupid’ Hallmark Movie Premiere: Trailer, Synopsis, Cast
Hallmark Channel is continuing to bring the love with its newest “Love Ever After” film, “Playing Cupid,” which stars Laura Vandervoort and Nicholas Gonzalez.
While fans likely recognize both stars for other work, the movie will be exciting for Hallmarkies as well, because this will be the first film they have each starred in on the network. Vandervoort is best known in recent years for her role as Elena Michaels on “Bitten,” and for her recent Lifetime Christmas movie, “A Christmas Exchange.”
Gonzalez, however, may be recognizable to some for his role in the UpTV movie “Christmas on the Range” in 2019, but his television roles are the ones he is best identified by. Previously, he portrayed Detective Marco Furey on “Pretty Little Liars” and Orlando Lagos on “being Mary Jane,” but these days, he is best known as Dr. Neil Melendez from “The Good Doctor.”
So what will happen when these two star in their first Hallmark film? According to a synopsis, some meddling from a teen could mean big romance.
“Middle-school teacher, Kerri Fox (Vandervoort), a favorite among her students, assigns a project in her class where each student must create and run his/her own small business,” the synopsis reads. “Thirteen-year-old Clara Martinez (Mia Quaranta De La Rosa) decides to put her vast matchmaking skills to the test and becomes Cupid Clara, much to the chagrin of her newly single father, David (Gonzalez).”
What starts off as an innocent project for a class assignment becomes something much more, however, as Clara puts her skills to work to make the ultimate match.
“As the weeks progress and Cupid Clara begins to flourish, Kerri gets more than she bargained for when Clara sets her sights on her newly single teacher as a potential match for her divorced dad,” the synopsis reads. “Can these two opposites really attract, and will they become yet another successful match for Cupid Clara?”
“Playing Cupid” premieres Saturday, Feb. 13 at 9 p.m. EST on Hallmark Channel.
