With the PlayStation 5 release looming in just a few months, the promise of what the DualSense Controller will bring is also on the minds of gamers everywhere.
Sony has promised that the DualSense Controller will be a huge improvement over the DualShock 4 that the PlayStation 4 came with. Many details about it remain vague including its price, but a lot of information has been confirmed by Sony about its hardware and features to increase the hype even more, says Screen Rant.
Countless concepts and mock-ups were supposedly presented before Sony decided on the final design of the DualSense Controller, which actually allowed them to incorporate new elements that promise to change the gameplay experience for the PS5. With a Christmas release expected for the console, the DualSense Controller might be available before then.
Placing a premium on ergonomics, comfort, and sleekness of design means Sony aimed to enhance all of a player’s senses. “Our goal with DualSense is to give gamers the feeling of being transported into the game world as soon as they open the box,” Sony wrote in a blog post introducing the new PS5 controller.
“We want gamers to feel like the controller is an extension of themselves when they’re playing – so much so that they forget that it’s even in their hands!” the post said.
Although there weren’t any substantial complaints against the DualShock 4, the DualSense features haptic feedback, bringing the crucial element of a sense of touch to the discussion. Haptic feedback incorporates the same technology used in Nintendo Switch’s HD rumble, allowing for more intense sensations and gameplay.
Adaptive triggers have also been fitted for the L2 and R2 buttons, allowing players to feel different levels of resistance when pressing on triggers in games. This means that they’ll feel more of a struggle when pulling a vehicle through mud or experiencing another big shock like an earthquake better than in any previous PlayStation controllers.
The previous “Share” button has been upgraded into the “Create” button and now promises to give players more opportunities to share and create gameplay content. Although what that means is currently unclear, Sony has promised that more details are coming regarding the differences between the two as the release date draws near.
Adding a built-in microphone adds to the game-changing nature of the DualSense Controller. Headsets will no longer be necessary for players to talk among themselves, easing conversations with virtual friends. The DualSense Controller will also feature a USB-C port for charging and improved battery life promising to last longer than previous controllers.
While the exact measurements or size of the PS5’s controller are not yet known at present, Screen Rant notes that it appears to have a slightly thicker form factor than its predecessor. It also features a more futuristic design that sets it apart from previous PlayStation controllers. Players will notice that the angle of the hand triggers has been changed. The grip is also a bit different in the DualSense than previous models due to the re-positioning.
