‘Pointless Celebrities’ Contestant Slammed Over Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Edward Comment
“Pointless Celebrities” contestant Faryl Smith was recently slammed following her comments about Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Edward.
The 23-year-old was asked to give a pointless answer to the question, “Prince who married Queen Elizabeth II in 1947 – Greece,” by hosts Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman.
Smith replied, “I actually don’t know any of these. I mean, to be honest, most of these were from before I was even born in 1995. I actually have no clue. I can’t answer any of them… I’m going to say a prince. Prince Edward, because I’ve met him a few times and he’s a lovely man.”
Armstrong was slightly taken aback by Smith’s answer, and he told her that she didn’t get the answer correctly.
Osman added, “Yeah, listen, I’m very aware that is before your time, but the Queen, if she’s watching, did not marry one of her children. 20 odd years later. You know what? It would be so weird, wouldn’t it?”
Armstrong added, “That would mean he would have to be his own father!”
Osman replied, “Yeah, he would have had to marry his mom 20 years before he was born in a kind of “Back to the Future” type scenario. That’s awful. Well, listen, poor old Prince Edward. Perhaps they’re all watching at home right now in Sandringham. I mean, this is awkward isn’t it? Because they’ll know. The royal family will know the answer. All of them will. Edward will be saying, ‘Oh this is… Oh, can we… do you mind if we watch ‘The Chase?’ That’s what Edward’s saying.”
Viewers of “Pointless Celebrities” also slammed Smith following this week’s episode. One of the audiences tweeted, “Queen Elizabeth is married to one of her children? And how is ‘before my time’ an excuse for not knowing things?”
Another viewer wrote, “My six year old knows which prince the Queen is married to.”
One audience added, “Faryl Smith doesn’t know who the Queen’s husband is.”
And a fourth fan wrote, “Can’t believe someone doesn’t know Prince Philip is the Queen’s husband.”
