‘Pokémon GO’ Promos Section Appears Briefly While Trainers Anticipate Next Update
A Promos section was briefly spotted by “Pokémon GO” players when they went to the Shop of Niantic’s game. Could this be signaling the addition of a new feature?
Since the launch of “Pokémon GO” last year, the mobile game did not have an in-app promotions section that would allow Trainers to use promo codes when transacting in the Shop. However, it appears Niantic is changing that in a future update. Players have taken to Reddit to share that they found a Promos section in the in-game Shop of the game albeit just briefly.
On Tuesday, Reddit user Mont713 started a subreddit asking if anyone has an idea how long has the Promos section he found recently been part of the game. He even shared a screenshot showing the Promos header and a bar where players can enter a promo code. For some reason though, not everyone were seeing the same thing in their apps.
Many have wondered why the Promos section does not appear on their end. On the other hand, some have confirmed that they’ve spotted the new feature as well, but it disappeared after a while. There were also comments about seeing another change in the game, which was the misplaced Gym counter.

“Pokémon GO” Rumored Summer Update
It wasn’t clear why the Promos section appeared briefly in “Pokémon GO,” but this has definitely sparked hope that a new update is slated for release soon. This could be the big summer update the developer is planning for this summer. Express reports that the next update that is expected to arrive in the coming weeks will likely introduce a new co-op experience that will change the way Gyms function.
There is also mention of the first Legendary Pokémon event being in the cards for the coming season. But of course, Niantic is still tight-lipped on what it has really planned for fans. Perhaps the update could both introduce the new co-op gameplay and the Legendary Pokémon event, or even something more. After all, a recent poll on the Pokémon GO Hub is asking players: “Do you think ‘Pokémon GO’ will be a huge Summer hit again?”
Server-Side Update
Meanwhile, ahead of the release of the new iOS and Android versions of the app, Niantic has implemented a server-side update recently. According to SlashGear, Niantic has an update that will turn McDonald’s stores into Lures. Unfortunately, this server-side update will only be implemented in Japan as part of McDonald’s sponsorship deal with The Pokémon Company there. In an announcement posted on the Pokémon GO Japan Twitter account, it was revealed that over 2,500 “domestic” McDonald’s stores will participate in the celebration known as “Golden Week.”
Although U.S.-based Trainers can’t expect the Lure module celebration event to come to the county, there is still good news that has surfaced recently. A server-side update is changing the rural spawns of Pokémon in areas with few or no PokéStops or Pokémon Gyms. Now, players in rural areas can see more Pokémon spawning since spawn rates have been increased by 10 to 15 percent.
