A 30-year-old female police constable in Madhya Pradesh, India, was allegedly gang-raped earlier this month by three men, who filmed the act and threatened her, an official said Saturday.

The main accused and his mother were arrested in connection with the incident, said Anuradha Girwal, who is in charge of the women’s police station. Girwal said the three other suspects in the case have absconded, India Today reported.

Police said the main accused, identified as Pawan, met the victim on Facebook and had been chatting with her on WhatsApp since April. They eventually began meeting up in real life, with Pawan going to Indore to visit her.

Earlier this month, Pawan invited the constable to his younger brother Dhirendra’s birthday celebration at Pawan's home in Manasa town in Neemuch, according to the report.

Pawan's two brothers, Dhirendra and Vijay, allegedly raped the woman at Pawan's house, filmed a video of the act and threatened to kill her.

The victim told police that Pawan allegedly also raped her after she told him what had happened.

When the constable complained to the accused's mother, the older woman allegedly threatened her and warned her of dire consequences if she reported the incident, the victim said in her report.

A relative of the accused allegedly also threatened to kill the victim and tried to extort money from her, she claimed.

The victim then approached the women's police station and submitted a written complaint detailing the incident.

The woman filed the complaint on Sept. 13, and an investigation was launched, The Hindu reported. It was not indicated when exactly the incident happened.

Police arrested Pawan and his mother in connection with the incident, police said. Dhirendra, Vijay and their uncle were also booked in the matter.

A case was registered under sections 376 (rape), 376D (gang rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Police are currently searching for the three absconding accused.

The victim was earlier posted in Neemuch and continues to work at the Indore district. A deeper probe into the incident is ongoing, according to Girwal.
