Officers from the Roy Police Department in Utah risked their lives and broke into a burning house to rescue three people stuck inside. The officers were responding to a call near 2000 West and 3800 South at about 1.30 a.m. local time (3.30 a.m. EST) Tuesday.

Officer Josh Taylor of the Roy Police Department said the flames were coming from the garage when the officers arrived at the spot. He said, “An officer tried the front door, but it felt hot, so he didn’t attempt to open it.” He added that the officers used the back door to access the house and found two people stuck in the basement.

Stating that there were no injuries reported in the incident, he explained that one of the three people stuck inside the house was able to get out through another door whereas the 2 people stuck in the basement were taken out after, “An officer broke the basement window with a rock."

Taylor also said, “I think a lot of times you’ll see, especially here in Roy but all over the place, officers are more than willing to help people out –especially on something that …we can’t always help on. Especially a house fire. We don’t know how to fight a fire.” He added that proper communication between the Riverdale Police Department and Weber County Sheriff’s Office played a key role in the rescue.

Another responding officer, Cash Ricks, said, “We actually kicked in the back door cause we were trying to find other means to get inside because that window was not giving. When it seems like everything is crashing down and it might be over, just keep calm, keep pushing and figure out a solution to make it work out in the end.”

The cause and the damage caused by the fire was still under investigation.
