'Pose' Star Angelica Ross Reacts To Emmy Snub: Academy Doesn't Care About Trans Lives

Angelica Ross, the star of the hit TV show “Pose,” got quite emotional after the transgender stars of the series were snubbed from the Emmy Award nominations. According to her, it appears that the Television Academy does not value trans lives.

Taking it to Instagram, Ross uploaded a video in which she could be seen getting emotional while speaking about the issue. In the video, the star noted that she is not upset about missing out on a nomination, but she is “tired” of seeing transgender actors getting snubbed by everyone in the society.

Ross started the video by saying that she knows people are waiting for a response after the Emmy snub, and it is her responsibility to tell them how she feels about it.

“I want you to know from the jump that these tears are not about an award or a nomination. Ultimately, I need you all to understand that I am so tired. Those of you who know me, know I am not just working on screen or behind the screen but I am working around the clock to get our society to value trans lives and Black trans lives,” Ross said in the video.

However, the 39-year-old star admitted that there is nothing they can do about it now.

“I feel what I feel because I feel there is nothing we can do,” Ross said.

The actress also shared that when she was shooting an episode, she prayed that the representation of transgender people would really “change our culture.” Ross also noted that she used to get tons of messages from people around the world who were moved by her performance and the rest of the cast.

“When we were shooting an episode for ‘Pose,’ I was like foolishly thinking and praying that the representation would really change our culture. The reality is that I was getting DM’ed like crazy, just non-stop, from people around the world. And the fact that trans women continue to not be recognized, it is so much more than that (getting nominated). It is so much deeper than that,” Ross said in her video update.

Her reaction comes after every other actor and actress on the show, except Billy Porter, was snubbed from the nominations that were announced recently. Even last year, all the cast members were left out of the nominations while Porter became the first openly gay black man to be nominated for and win an Emmy in the leading category.

The show is also not nominated for Outstanding Drama Series this year.
