Powers Boothe Facts: Things To Know About The 'Agents Of SHIELD' Actor

Known for his roles in TV’s “Deadwood,” Powers Boothe died of natural causes at the age of 68, at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday, his publicist said before confirming a private service will be held in Texas where he was from.

The “Tombstone” actor was born on June 1 1948, in a farm in Snyder, Texas. He was known for his roles in “Sin City,” “The Avengers” and also the TV series called “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Boothe was first introduced to the world of acting while he was performing in summer stock while studying in his junior year at Texas State University. Boothe moved to New York in the ‘80s after he completed a fellowship in the dramatic arts from Southern Methodist University and worked with the Oregon Shakespeare Company for some time.

Boothe started his career as a theater actor with a number of roles in Shakespearean plays such as “Henry IV.” Boothe made his Broadway debut in the late '70s through “Lone Star & Pvt. Wars.”

The actor’s long-time confidante, Beau Bridges tweeted the news and called him “a dear friend, great actor, devoted father and husband.”

Boothe will be best remembered for his performances in films like “Red Dawn” (1984), "Tombstone" (1993), and "Sin City" (2005). He also acted in several television series like "24," "Nashville," "Deadwood," and "Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones."

The veteran actor won an Emmy award for "Outstanding Lead Actor" as the character of Jim Jones in a limited series in 1980 of the TV movie "Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones." Boothe also created his mark while playing the roles of a ruthless brothel owner, Cy Tolliver in "Deadwood," the gunman Curly Bill Brocius in "Tombstone" and the corrupt senator in "Sin City." In recent years, he had a regular role as tycoon Lamar Wyatt in the country music drama “Nashville.”

Boothe preferred playing negative characters. He told American Profile in 2012: “The heavies are more fun. And I think they're more interesting.”

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Boothe has an estimated net worth of $8 million, which made it possible for him to buy his own ranch in Los Angeles, California, where he also trained and raised racing horses.

While pursuing his acting degree at Texas State University, he met Pam Cole, a fellow student at the university, whom he married in 1969. Boothe spoke about his four decade marriage with American Profile:

“We were friends before all this acting stuff happened,” Boothe explained, “To me, the relationship is a success not because of what happens in good times, but how you get through the bad times. When you pull through things and show your trust and mettle and dependency on each other, you’re so much stronger. I can’t imagine life without her.”

Boothe has two children with Cole. Preston, 28, is a graduate of the University of California, and Parisse, 34, who also became an actress like her father.
