Aishwarya Rai - who is due to give birth this month - made a public appearance and thanked her well-wishers.

New Delhi TV reported that Rai accompanied her husband, Abhishek Bachchan, and mother-in-law to a party for fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

I'll take this opportunity to thank everybody, all your viewers, for all your good wishes and prayers and blessings, Rai said. Thank you very much.

The appearance came less than a week after the Broadcast Editors' Association (BEA) passed out a list of rules regarding media coverage of the Bachchan baby's birth.

The guidelines mandate that no pre-coverage take place, and that the birth remain unannounced until an official statement has been released, among other rules.

Rai's father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan, tweeted his delight over the BEA rules: I am also most touched by the decision taken by the electronic media on the coverage issue for Aishwarya's delivery ..humbled !!
