Pregnant ‘Teen Mom 2’ Star Jenelle Evans Defends Comments Saying She Can ‘Almost Relate’ To 9/11 Victims Families
Jenelle Evans took to Twitter to remember the victims of 9/11, but ended up offending a bunch of her fans after posting that she could “almost relate” to the families who lost someone. The “Teen Mom 2” star, who’s pregnant again and expecting her third child, tried to smooth things over by tweeting an explanation, but the damage was already done.
In a tweet Sunday on 9/11’s 15th anniversary, Jenelle wrote that she was flying back from spending time in New York. “Cannot believe that tragedy happened,” she posted. “#WeWillNeverForget #WorldTradeCenter.” In a second post, the MTV reality star said she was “sorry” for those who lost someone in the attacks, adding: “My uncle retired a week before. I can almost relate. #NeverForget. #Remember911.”
After getting criticized for saying she could relate to the families of the victims families, Jenelle hopped on Twitter to defend herself and explain her tweet. “If my uncle hadn’t of retired he would have been dead right now,” she posted in a now-deleted tweet (via Entertainment Tonight). “So no 140 characters isn’t enough to explain…Reason I said ‘almost can relate.’ No, I don’t know how much hurt and pain it would cause me. Clearly stated that.”
Jenelle also re-tweeted a fan who told her that if she would have never commented on the 9/11 anniversary, people would have bashed her for being “unsympathetic.” “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t,” the post read. “Crazy.”
Recently, Jenelle was involved in another scandal after fans accused her of supposedly lying about her miscarriage. In an interview with Us Weekly last month, the reality star revealed that she had a miscarriage in April, one month before getting pregnant with her daughter Ensley Jolie. According to Wetpaint, fans think Jenelle made up the miscarriage story to cover up her initially denying she was pregnant again.
