A physically challenged and pregnant woman was beaten by an angry mob on the suspicion on child-lifting. The woman’s family informed the police after a video of the beating went viral and one of her family members received it on WhatsApp.

The incident took place in Harsh Vihar, a bustling neighborhood in the north-eastern part of India's capital Delhi.

Two people, Deepak (27) and B Shakuntala (52), residents of Mandoli, have been so far arrested for reportedly enraging a mob to thrash the 25-year-old woman, police confirmed. Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East), said that the incident was reported on Aug. 27, the BBC reported.

In the WhatsApp video that came forth, an angry mob is heard accusing the woman of kidnapping children and beating her indiscriminately. The woman was four-month-pregnant at the time of the attack that came down heavily on her, DCP Atul Kumar Thakur confirmed.

According to a resident of Southeast Delhi’s Tughlakabad, the woman was immediately rushed to a hospital by her family. The police confirmed that her condition is stable now.

This incident is the latest addition in a trail of attacks triggered by the rumors of child-lifting in the Indian capital and its vicinity.

Delhi has witnessed many such attacks last year when several people were beaten and some killed over rumors of child-lifting.
