Pregnant Woman Catches 2-Year-Old Boy Who Fell From Second-Story Window

A pregnant woman in Iowa saved the life of a 2-year-old boy, who reportedly fell from a second-floor window and landed straight into her arms.

Kyrie Jones said she was walking her dog Monday when she saw a toddler hanging out from the window of her neighbor's residence on Merle Hay Road, Des Moines.

The 33-week-pregnant woman said the toddler had popped out the window screen and made his way to the edge, according to KCRG.

"I noticed the little boy was bending over the edge of the window, and he was throwing things out the window," the pregnant woman told KCCI.

The worried woman rushed to the front door of the residence and rang the doorbell, hoping to alert an adult inside about the child in potential danger. However, nobody answered the door.

After informing the police, Jones went back to the spot to watch the toddler as he hung on to the window's edge.

"When I came back out, the baby was holding on the ledge hanging. So, I stood right underneath him just in case," Jones said.

The hanging toddler soon lost his grip and fell from the window's ledge into Jones' arms. The pregnant woman was able to catch the child before he hit the concrete.

"He kind of hit my belly a little bit. I think the adrenaline kicked in, and I didn't feel anything," Jones told the outlet.

Des Moines police arrived at the scene minutes later to find Jones still outside with the toddler. They were joined by the child's mother, who also eventually came out of the residence.

The identity of the mother and whether she would be facing charges were not released immediately. Officials said detectives and social services were looking into the incident.

Jones said she was happy to rescue the child and prevent a potential tragedy.

"I am just glad I was there at the right time," said Jones. "As long as the baby is safe, I am good."

A similar incident was reported last year after a passerby caught a little girl who fell from the fifth floor of a building in China. The girl plunged from the window and landed on a terrace on the first floor before falling into the man's arms. She sustained injuries but survived the incident.
