Geeta's husband allegedly gave her abortion medication, which resulted in heavy bleeding, her parents told the police. Her relatives rushed to a local clinic, where doctors asked her to be moved to a speciality hospital. When the family arrived at Lala Lajpat Rai hospital, the doctors declared the woman dead on arrival, News 18 reported, citing IANS.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and have sent the woman's body for an autopsy. According to Station House Officer Prakash Chandra, a case has been lodged under relevant charges of the Indian Penal Code. However, the official did not reveal the exact charges.
Last month, a 15-year-old pregnant girl in the southern state of Tamil Nadu died after allegedly taking abortion pills given to her by a quack. The teenager was impregnated by a 27-year-old man, who used to drop her off at school. The duo was reportedly in a physical relationship. When the girl got pregnant, her partner – identified only by his first name Murugan – went to a quack and got some abortion pills. He later gave the pills to the girl, who consumed them. When the duo were on a two-wheeler, the girl – who was four months pregnant – fainted. She was rushed to the Thanipadi Government Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead. The exact cause of death was not known. The police arrested 27-year-old Murugan and charged him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The police said Murugan's friend, who accompanied him to the quack, was also taken into custody. There were no details about the quack who gave the abortion pills to Murugan. It was also not known how many of the pills did the teenager consume.
