Premier League: Manchester United Confirm 3 Players Won’t Play Against Burnley [Details]
KEY POINTS
- Man Utd were held at a 1-1 draw at Newcastle
- Man Utd to next take on Burnley in the league on Thursday
- The Red Devils have managed only 3 wins in their last 5 league games
Manchester United have confirmed that at least three players won’t feature in their Premier League clash with Burnley on Thursday.
The Red Devils will be without Bruno Fernandes, Victor Lindelof and Paul Pogba for their upcoming fixture at Old Trafford.
Earlier this week, Lindelof missed Manchester United’s trip to St. James’ Park after testing positive for COVID-19 just a day before the game. The Swedish center-back is currently in isolation.
Fernandes, who received a massive backlash after the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw against Newcastle, will be unavailable due to a one-match suspension, after collecting his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season on Monday night, according to Man Utd’s official website.
Meanwhile, Pogba, who has been on the sidelines since November due to a hamstring injury that he had picked up while on international duty with the French national team, continues to be out of action. The Burnley game is going to be the 11th game, which Pogba is set to miss this season due to the thigh issue.
Apart from the injury-related lay-off, Pogba had missed two league games, which were against Spurs and Man City, after receiving a red card in Man United’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford in October.
Pogba’s current contract with Manchester United is due to expire at the end of the season and the Frenchman has not signed an extension yet. The Red Devils could lose their star midfielder for free in the summer and Pogba will be allowed to begin negotiations with foreign clubs from Jan. 1, 2022.
In the last five league games, Manchester United have managed to win only three, drawing the remaining two. In their previous game, which was against Newcastle, Edinson Cavani had netted a late equalizer to hand his side a crucial point. Man Utd’s interim head coach Ralf Rangnick slammed his men after the game, saying he "didn’t like the performance at all."
The Red Devils have 28 points after 17 matches into the 2021-22 Premier League and are placed seventh in the table.
