KEY POINTS
- Camavinga needs to hold off transfer from Rennes
- Camavinga may get mediocre offers
- Rennes won't let Camavinga go easily
Eduardo Camavinga is making waves for Rennes and such is the reason why multiple teams are keeping tabs. One team that has been linked to the 17-year-old midfielder is Real Madrid. However, Los Blancos is not the only one. There are other big-name teams interested in the Angolan, hinting that Zinedine Zidane must make his move if ever he has plans of signing Camavinga.
Other teams interested in signing Camavinga include Barcelona and Juventus. Debuting only last year. the 17-year-old has made quite an impression. However, Rennes is bent on keeping Camavinga and their chances of doing so could improve if they continue their good run in Ligue 1. Before the coronavirus suspended football action, the team was at the third spot behind PSG and Marseille. If they stay the course, they can make it to the Champions League next season.
As mentioned in a previous post, Rennes is expected to pull out all stops to keep Camavinga. He needs more time to develop and this is something that is not guaranteed if makes the jump. This was the take of coach Julien Stephan when asked about the Angolan footballer's future.
"I always give him the advice to stay one more season at Rennes because it is his training club," the 39-year-old said. "After a good season, that quality leap must always be confirmed and it would be easier for him to do it here.
At 17, there is no questioning what Camavinga can do. However, he can still improve and evolve. For Stephan, it would be best to delay his plans of moving up for at least a year. Los Blancos could blind Camavinga with a lucrative offer but the 39-year-old coach urges him to think wisely about his football future.
In a recent report from Sport, it appears Les Rennais will not make things easy if Real is persistent. It appears they will not allow Camavinga to move to Santiago Bernabeu this summer, further complicating any chances of the defensive midfielder moving out. Camavinga's contract will expire in 2022.
Worth factoring in as well on the part of Camavinga is that the offer may not be as big as most originally forecasted. With the COVID-19 hampering league play, most teams are expected to tighten their belts. Hence, saving his transfer plans for next season makes sense - possibly raising his value in the process with another year of play for Rennes.
